Indonesia's Kompas reported on January 23 that last year, Indonesia's imports of plastics and plastic products increased by 2.5% to US$7 billion, while exports decreased by 3.8% to US$2.25 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of US$4.75 billion in the plastics sector. It is estimated that the country's plastic consumption will exceed 5 million tons this year, a 6% increase from last year's 4.8 million tons. Only 2.3 million tons can be supplied by domestic producers, while the remaining approximately 2.8 million tons still need to rely on imports and plastic recycling.
